CCD

Cafe Coffee Day has pioneered the cafe concept in India in 1996 by opening its first outlet. CCD has brought the new culture in India and that is of COFFEE CULTURE. The Amalgamated Bean Coffee Trading Company Ltd. (ABCTL) is the largest producer and exporter of coffee in India and operates through the various divisions like Coffee Day Fresh n Ground , coffee Day Xpress, Coffee Day Take Away, Coffee Day Exports, Coffee Day Perfect , Café Coffee Day.

The logo colours of CCD signify:

Red Square= Leadership, passion White Swirl = Purity of purpose, invigorating properties of coffee Green Stroke = 125 years of coffee growing heritage of this vertically integrated Group
The font used for “Café” is called SLURRY. The font looks as though the letters have congealed(coagulated) out of a liquid

CCD has positioned itself not only a sophisticated place to drink coffee but also a cool place to hangout and enjoy with friends. That is what punch line of CCD defines that “A lot can happen over coffee”. CCD offers an experience and service mainly to attract young crowd.

In recent moves, CCD has segmented the market as per the behaviour of the customers; Book Cafes are for the people who want to spend time drinking coffee along with reading a book. Another format of CCD is of offering cyber cafe where both internet and coffee is served.
CCD sells experience and is very successful to certain extent in replacing chai walla and Chai tapris (tea stalls). Youngsters, primary target group of CCD wants to have value for money and CCD offers them an affordable luxury. Unique pricing model of CCD is a differential one in which same cup of coffee in Delhi costs different than that in Vadodara

Major competitors of CCD include Barista, Costa Coffee etc. Other entertainment outlets like Mac D, Pizza hut, multiplexes, traditional small tea stalls are other major competitors to CCD. In order to retain its existing customer base and to attract new customers, CCD offers a loyalty card to its customers “Cafe Citizen Card”.

Keeping in mind the changing eating and spending behaviour of Indian customers, there is a huge potential market left untouched and i.e. of people above 35-40 years. In fact, youngsters of today may be the future customers that can be tapped.

Presently CCD has self-owned cafes all around the country that can be its strength and a roadblock as well in nationwide expansion, so starting a franchisee could be one of the available options, which can be helpful in expanding in such a competitive and demanding market.

However, CCD has handful of potential threats but none the less it has a distinction of revolutionizing a concept and the way people drink coffee and enjoy the small gatherings.
